My Funky Library Card
The Sketchbook Project came to Pittsburgh, PA on Friday, November 16, 2012 (after being rescheduled due to Hurricane Sandy). The Sketchbook Project truck parked in front of Assemble Gallery (www.assemblepgh.org) on Penn in the Garfield section of the city. A lot of people came to look at sketchbooks and sat inside the Gallery to browse and work on creative projects. In order to see a sketchbook, (mine or someone else’s), the requester had to sign up for a library card. The recipient received the card right away.
Just like a real library, when the requester/recipient returned the sketchbook, he or she got another sketchbook. The gallery staff invited visitors to make small clay figures out of model magic. Some of the figures looked like characters out of the old movie, Freaks, while others were slightly more recognizable. BTW, five people looked at my storytelling sketchbook. (See link below to view the pages of my 2012 Sketchbook.) It was a lot of fun looking at hand-made hand designed sketchbooks with others…art of, by and for the people.
